On This Day In Spurs History: 31st March

1961 – Talk about fixture congestion. The Easter period of our double season saw us take on Chelsea on Good Friday, Preston on the Saturday and Chelsea again on Easter Monday. These modern day footballers don’t know they’re born etc… Spurs kicked off their busy schedule with a 4-2 win at home to Chelsea, with goals from Cliff Jones (2), Frank Saul and Les Allen.

1962 – On this day in 1962 it was the FA Cup semi final at Hillsbrough against Manchester United. Tottenham ran out 3-1 winners, thanks to goals from Jimmy Greaves, Cliff Jones and Terry Medwin.

1978 – Today is the birthday of Stephen Clemence, who progressed through our youth ranks to make 109 appearances for Spurs, scoring three goals.

1990 – Tottenham enjoyed a 4-2 away win at Sheffield Wednesday, with the goals coming from Paul Allen, Gary Lineker (2) and Paul Stewart.
