Last night’s return to winning ways at Ewood Park was welcomed by all concerned at Tottenham.
Harry Redknapp played two main strikers for the first time anyone could remember, with Rafael van der Vaart dropping back into midfield. After 3 minutes the change paid off with Peter Crouch heading home, what proved to be the winner.
Speaking afterwards, Harry was clearly delighted: “It was a great result for us. It’s a difficult place to come to Blackburn, and not many teams come here and get a win.”
William Gallas was a rock at the back and despite an early trademark punch/flap, Heurelho Gomes made some crucial saves to secure the three points.
The win sees Spurs take a grip on fifth place at least, three points behind fourth placed Chelsea and five points behind Man City, over whom we have a game in hand. Here’s the highlights:

“Gomes made some trademark crucial saves”
I think you’ll find it was Blackburn’s profliglacy in front of goal and blind luck that saw us through. Singling out Gomes for praise in the title of this piece is ridiculous – he seems to have reverted back to his inconsistent, unsteady self with terrible decision making to boot.
Bassong as well seems to be suffering a dip in form. As you say Gallas (despite limping towards the end) was a rock… but we definitely need to up our game for this weekend. For god sake’s as well someone coach Palacios in how to string more than two passes together! Can’t wait for Modric and Huddlestone to get back…. not to mention Bale and Dawson….
Was the goal scored by the same Crouch that was slated on websites on Monday . Yet the Defoe man did not score again and fans insist he is a class striker .
Graham…. Agree, I think, with the point you’re making…. however. Defoe is a nightmare as he harries people and wins the ball high up the fielde. agree he’s not class, if that’s what you’re saying, but he certainly better than Crouch, who defended for an age until I lost patience with him a couple of months ago
Gomes takes so much pressure off our defence when coming out to punch and redknapp has told him to do so. Look at our set pieces we have lennon ekotto and modric all waiting on the line to clear anything! Very smart and it worked brilliantly once again. Gomes was class and saved us last season and is doing so again! If he doesn’t punch, the chances are we will concede! The problem with robinson was he didn’t come off his line o set plays hence why we conceded goal after goal and couldn’t hold onto leads.. Since gomes has come.. Our gd has improved he has kept tonnes of clean sheets not forgetting we had an excellent defensive record homw and away after united two seasons running. So saying that isn’t fair! He’s been sublime for us despite some howlers!!
Defoe is also useless! “Clinical finisher” my ass.
I thought we played ok, enuogh to win the game. Getting the early goal certanily helped. Thought Gomes was excellent, Charlie played well too which is good to see. Bassong and Gallas were pretty good for the most part. Defoe was rubbish and Wilson’s passing was woeful. Jenas was anonymous as usual. Happy we won though and good to see Woody on the bench
