Not surprisingly our manager Harry Redknapp has tipped Gareth Bale to become one of the greatest players in the world. However, Harry seems to think that the player’s ultimate future lies in the left back position and not on the left wing where he has caused so much trouble since the end of last season.
Speaking in his column in The Sun, Redknapp said: “He will develop his game in the future and eventually I believe he will revert to being a left-back.
“As he gets more and more well known and his game gets understood by opponents, he will find space harder to come by in order to run at teams.
“But, with experience, I reckon he will drop back into the left-back postion, which means he will be able to pick up the ball deeper in his own half and have that time and space denied more forward players.”
Harry also tipped Bale to walk away with a host of awards at the end of the season. For most Spurs fans, we will be happy just to see him back in a lilywhite shirt very soon.
Maybe he’s only saying that so that clubs don’t buy him, with the reasoning that LB’s are not as sought after as LW’s?
On the other hand, he could be talking through his hat as usual.
Have to agree with Harry with this.. Bale is quality, but he will never be a magician like Messi etc, so will find he will be getting less space to work with, like has happened a few occasions this year, eg. Everton game.
He’s tall & strong, with a great cross. He has potential to be a top left winger, or the best left (wing) back in the world. Playing him on the wing just doesnt use his whol game. From LB it would use his stamina & pace getting up & down the field more.
It would also allow us to play players like Kranjar ahead of him to overlap, who are goal threats themselves. Although he would probably need a Sandro in the centre to be able to cover our wings when we are really pushing forward on the wings.
Absolute lunacy.
Personally, what with the current goal drought with our forwards, I’d stick him up front. He can use both feet, has a good head, lightening pace, strength and great skill. A certain Monsieur Henry started on the wing and look at the kind of forward he became. Bale has a lot of similarities with him and should be tried there until the end of the season with with Krancjar on the left.
Obviously these are just personal thoughts
Interesting. What’s the worst that could happen.

I think that if we had Marin, that Pienaar wouldn’t get a look in. I like your signing of Hulk though. That would be nice.
Nah
Only a compete idiot would stick someone in a position they are not suited to (such as Gallas at right back)
Bale’s future is at LW. End of.
