Michael Dawson is one of five players released from the England squad ahead of the national side’s friendly with Ghana tomorrow night.
The players released are all on Champions League duty next week and it’s suggested that the move was made to placate the club managers involved.
Dawson was solid in England’s 2-0 over Wales on Saturday and may well have cemented his position as John Terry’s partner in central defense. He could even have been a good outside bet for the England captaincy had he played on Tuesday, but at least he is safely back at Spurs with some crucial games coming up.
