After injuries have ravaged through Tottenham’s back four, one of our midfield has already been ruled out of tomorrow’s game with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.

In understated fashion, Steven Pienaar declared on his Twitter account: “Out for the Madrid game, groin still not right.”

Pienaar has previous experience from this stage of the competition, having got there with Ajax eight years ago. On the Spurs official website he talks about his heartbreak from that time and his determination to go one better with Tottenham.

Sadly for the player, he will have no part in the first leg at least. Although it may have been doubtful whether he would have started with him, Harry Redknapp will consider it a blow not to have the experienced Pienaar on the bench for tomorrow night.
