Several of us had suspected that Spurs’ transfer dealings involving goalkeepers weren’t quite over and there are rumours today linking two separate stoppers to the club.

Polish International Artur Boruc spent 5 years at Celtic before heading to Serie A with Fiorentina. The keeper was originally battling with Sebastien Frey for the number one shirt but stepped in after Frey’s injury and made over 20 appearances.

Elsewhere, there’s a link with Marseille’s Steve Mandanda who is 26 and is a firm first choice for his club. He is also their captain and has 14 French caps so it’s maybe no surprise that there’s a €20m price tag on his head.

To be fair, these seem to be isolated stories so maybe there’s no substance in them at all but it’s interesting to see goalkeepers being linked once again. When Brad Friedel signed, Harry Redknapp suggested there was a three way fight for the number one jersey but maybe Heurelho Gomes could yet be excluded from that equation.

  1. I don’t understand this. The only keeper we should be signing now is a young one who comes on the cheap and can develop for a couple of years. Friedel is the number one, he wouldn’t have come here if he wasn’t, Cudicini is the number two, Gomes is going to be sold and we need to focus on a couple of strikers. I think these are unfounded rumors, nothing more. Mandanda coming here is an absolute joke, no way we spend 20 mil on a goalie at this point.
