While we wait patiently or otherwise for any real transfer news at White Hart Lane, all we can do is speculate as to who, if anyone, will arrive at the club this summer.

The areas that need strengthening are fairly obvious and central defence is one area that the club is desperate to cover. We’ve just seen Jonathan Woodgate leave the club and there has also been some speculation over Sebastien Bassong and even Younes Kaboul’s position.

In amongst all of this there’s Ledley King and while we saw at Anfield in May just what an impact he can still have at this level, no-one is expecting a full season from him. That does however leave us with a conundrum.

For the time being Ledley remains our club captain and, when you look at the existing crop of players, presumably he’s our first choice centre back when fit – alongside Michael Dawson.

When Bassong was overlooked in favour of a half fit King last season, he saw it as the ‘final straw’ so how would any player coming in feel about the situation and the prospect of playing only when Ledley is unfit?

Some of the names being thrown around include Neven Subotic, Serdar Tacsi and Christopher Samba. All internationals who probably wouldn’t like the situation any more than Bassong did.

Of course, our skipper’s great career could be one more injury away from being brought to a close but for the time being, how does Harry handle the situation if and when a new player comes in? Is Ledley always first choice?

  1. If fit, he’s our No.1 and cant think of many around the world I would want to replace him.

I would even suggest that if fully fit, as much as I love Dawson, he might be on the bench..

A fully fit King / Gallas partnership is pretty awesome.

    • When was the last time a Dawson and King defence ever conceded a goal? Michael Dawson is not only a better player than Gallas but William is an ex Gunner and an ex Chelsea player.

  2. I’d play king and gallas as first choice and play them together for as many league games as possible, if one gets injured then bring in kaboul for king and dawson for gallas. Dawson and kaboul should be ready to step up now and play together if we need to, also there is khumalo and bassong as back up, yes bassong wants to go so we will see what happens with him.

  3. If fit, it’s no-brainer, after all he can make inferior players look great. Used correctly (unlike many others) and in moderation (not Europa or cup games), he can bring on the likes of Bassong as well, perhaps in a coaching capacity, as he’s that born captain and leader, so obviously lacking when absent. Shame about Woody though, though why he accepted a pay as you play deal from Stoke and not us will remain a mystery?
