With an injury crisis affecting Tottenham’s central midfield it seems very likely that Jake Livermore will be given his chance at Tynecastle tonight as Spurs take on Hearts in the first leg of this Europa League qualifier.

“We’ve got one midfield player really and that’s Jake Livermore, a young lad who’s been out on loan,” Harry said.

“We like Jake, he’s a kid who’s played in the Championship on loan at several clubs, and he’s the only central midfield player who’s available tomorrow.

“We’ll try to invent a new formation with one midfield player, we’ll see how we go.”

In goal, it remains to be seen whether Harry will go for Friedel or Gomes while BAE, Dawson and Kaboul seemed to be first choice with Corluka or Walker making up the back four.

VDV has been passed fit and given the defensive crisis could slot in with Livermore rather than play behind Crouch. Elsewhere in midfield it could be between Bale, Lennon, Kranjcar and possibly John Bostock as the only fit players.

Up front, if Redknapp does go with 4-4-2, it will be two from Crouch, Defoe and Pavlyuchenko although with the promise of using younger players, we could see the introduction of Kane or Coulibaly if Spurs take an early grip on this game.

With our Premier League opener against Manchester United just days away, here’s the team that we’d pick tonight. What would yours be?

  1. I like your team, but I think having Livermore and Kaboul in the middle is too negative, I would probably go for one of them two (probably Livermore to give him a go) and Kranjcar. He would add a bit of forward drive, and some skill. Pick Kane on the bench, and play Pav up top with VDV just off him.

  2. Whole team:

    Friedel

    Walker Dawson Kaboul Rose

    Lennon Kranjcar Livermore Bale

    vdV
    Pav.

    Bench:
    Gomes
    Corluka
    Bassong
Parrett (I think he’s still at the club?)
    Dos Santos
    Kane
    Defoe.

      • In which case, my team:
        Gomes
        Walker Dawson Bassong BAE

        Lennon/Kranjcar VdV Livermore Bale/Rose

        Crouch Defoe

(Lennon and Bale could do with a run out, but prob not the full 90, hence the options. Is Gio still with us btw?)

  3. kane could easilytravel up, i think he should be given a chance i mean rooney cameon the seen when he was 16 and kane is nearly 18 so why not?

  4. I’d play the first choice keeper,

With the first choice defence with an experiment midfield of VDV and Livermore.

Give Lennon and Bale starts, with Townsend coming on for one of them in the 2nd half.

Upfront I would go with Pav and Defoe.

    My team would be
    Gomes

    Walker Kaboul Dawson BAE

    Livermore
    Lennnon VDV Bale

    Pav Defoe

  5. Gomes.
    Walker Kaboul Dawson Rose
    Townsend Kranjcar/Corluka Livermore Bale
    Vdv
    Defoe
Subs( Freidel Bassong BAE Kane Crouch lennon

  6. Friedel
    Walker kaboul dawson bae
    Vdv livermore krancjar bale
    Defoe pavlyuchenko

Lennonn rose and crouch to come on
Play vdv and bale only 60min for fatigue for MU game

  7. Gomes, Walker, Kaboul, Dawson, BAE, Bentley, Kranjcar, Livermore, Rose. Pav, Defoe. Give Bale, Lennon, Corluka and Vdv 45 mins.

    • This looks close to the best; I would adjust it slightly:

      Gomes
      Walker, Kaboul, Dawson, BAE
      Bentley, Kranjcar, Livermore, Rose
      Crouch, Coulibaly

Bentley and Kranjcar should be used in Europe if kept and if we’re going to sell them then put them on display now.
Coulibaly or Kane if we can get them there.

The idea is to both rest some players for ManU and to give younger players a chance while still keeping an experience ‘spine’ of players.

  8. Cudicini

    Corluka Dawson Kaboul BAE

    Walker Livermore Kranjcar Bale

    VDV

    Pavlyuchenko

    Subs:

    Friedel
    Bassong
    Rose
    Lennon
    Defoe
    Crouch

  9. Friedel
    Walker kaboul dawson bae
    Vdv livermore krancjar bale/rose
    Defoe pavlyuchenko

Lennon rose and crouch to come on
Play vdv and bale only 60min for fatigue for MU game

agree with this post! – but would like to see 30 mins for kane

  10. Friedel
    Walker-Dawson-Kaboul-D. Rose
    A.Townsend-Parrett-Kranjcar-Bale
    VDV-Pavly

    Second half:
    Lennon for A. Townsend
    Livermore for D.Parrett
    Bostock for Kranjcar

  11. Cudicini (consistent)
    Walker Dawson Kaboul Bale
    Huddlestone Bentley
    Modric VDV Krancjar
    Defoe

(or put bale for bentley and put rose LB)

  12. Friedel
    Walker, Kaboul, Bassong, Rose
    Townsend/Lennon Livermore, Krancjar, Bale
    Crouch, Defoe
    Subs
    Kane
    BAE
    Pav
    Townsend/Lennon
    Dawson
    Corluka
    Gomes

  13. Better to get Vdv match fit for Man U game by playing the beggar. I would never play 4-4-2 with either Niko or Vdv in midfield… So a 4-4-1-1 cum 4-5-1 with Niko/Vdv switching between midfield and support attacker. Hopefully they would be smart enough to work it out for themselves…. If pushed back, or cut to shreads, they should both retreat into a 4-5-1 and try to hold position for a while. Let Lennon/Bale attack:

    Gomes

    Corluka – Daws – Kaboul – Ekotto

    Livermore Niko

    Vdv

    Defoe (for pace).

However I feel that Crouch will play tonight…
