Speculation may continue about possible transfer targets for Spurs this January but manager Harry Redknapp has indicated today that it could be another quiet winter at the Lane.

Speaking on Talksport, Harry did highlight the defensive injury problems that Spurs have suffered since the start of the season.

“I’m hoping that Michael Dawson comes back,” Harry said.

“He’s got this Achilles injury. Hopefully we will get a decision on him this week.

“He’s going for another scan on that.

“William Gallas is coming back now as well. He did a fantastic job for us last season and, if I get them lads fit, we are OK, it’s not a problem.”

So those comments would tend to rule out a move for a central defender and Harry rounded off the interview by suggesting that possible reinforcements elsewhere were surplus to requirements.

“Other than that I wouldn’t know where to bring anyone else in. We are pretty strong all over the pitch,” he concluded.

Last January, the club brought in Steven Pienaar and Bongi Khumalo, neither of whom has really featured for Spurs for a combination of reasons and it looks like it could be more of the same in the winter window of 2012.

  1. We will replace Pav.
    We will probably replace Bassong.
We will also possibly bring in competition for Lennon, unless they see Kranjcar Pienaar or Dos Santos as contenders to do so.
The manager always says we wont be doing any business in January and even summer windows. Jol used to do it aswell.
We ALWAYS end up doing some business and will especially if Levy can actually get their targeted players. It’s only when they miss out on the ones they want that deals fail to materialise.

  2. Might also get a young keeper.
If Gomes, Pav, Bassong & Gio all leave then they will surely be replaced. They will have plenty of money to spend after what we raked in during the summer and what we can get from those four above.

    • These are the positions that need to be strengthened:

Lennon would either be spurred on by competition and live up to his billing or be replaced by someone better.

We need a young keeper and better to get him now to understudy Friedel and Cudicini.

Pav seems (despite sporadic amazing goals) barely good enough for our young/reserve squad. Also, unless Adebayor is willing to take a substantial pay cut we’ll need to replace him as well come summer. Better to get someone now and let them acclimate (rather than coming onto the squad 2 weeks after the start of next season).

Kaboul, Dawson, and Caulker seem like good, long-term CBs. Gallas and King are excellent when fit, but at this point they should be seen as a stop-gap rather than a long-term solution. Bassong just isn’t good enough. One more CB, please.

  3. Question people. When Kaboul King Gallas and Dawson are all fit, who starts in the PL? I for one don’t want to see Kaboul dropped unless his form dips, at the moment he is improving at a rapid rate, and imm scared that dropping him to the bench hinders that. King is a mustwhen fit,but can Gallas and Dawson just push Kaboul out? I hope not. Gallas is my third choice. Unfortunately Dawson was below par in the first two defeats, but then again, everyone was.

  4. King and Gallas is the best partnership by far if both fit!
Walker-King-Gallas-Bale is the best option for the back four. Speed and attack with both full backs and experience and top class defense with King and Gallas.

We should be buying two players if we want to improve that part of the squad: Sakho and Jan Vertonghen.

    • BAE was one of our best players last season and is having another quietly excellent campaign. Bale is absolutely electric in midfield. Why would you want to leave Benny out and Move Bale from what is clearly his natural position?

  5. We certainly need to build up the strikers. Pav is going( I hope) We cant afford Ades wages, so he will be off too. That leaves Defoe and VDV (while he scores VDV is a midfielder not a striker). So we would be left with one striker with a track record of doing badly in this formation. One striker will not be enough we will need two.
