Manager Harry Redknapp said last month that an operation on Michael Dawson’s troublesome Achilles would be a ‘last resort’, but as we learned yesterday, that has become a reality and will keep the England defender out until January at least.

A statement on the club website reads: ‘Michael Dawson has today undergone surgery to his right Achilles tendon to assist with his recovery.

Medical staff are pleased with his progress and he will be reviewed by the surgeon in early December, at which time a date for a return to full training will be determined.’

Fans of Dawson won’t be pleased to be reminded that Spurs’ unbeaten run has coincided with his absence and therefore the club has found its first choice centre back pairing almost by default.

The estimate is that Michael won’t be back until the New Year at the very least and if others stay injury free, he could face a long wait before forcing himself back into the side.
