Our two January signings had what some would call a predictably low key six months at Spurs and while striker Louis Saha seems to be finished at the club, there are suggestions that Ryan Nelsen will return as defensive cover.
34 year old Nelsen played six games for the club, scoring against Bolton in the FA Cup and rumours of a return seem to be gathering momentum.
This might just about make sense if Spurs decide to send Steven Caulker back to Swansea although many would prefer to see Steven given his chance in the squad. With Ledley King seemingly out of the equation, it could be a choice of two from Dawson, Kaboul and hopefully Vertonghen for the first team berths. William Gallas is surely the best option as cover for those three so Nelsen is currently some way down the pecking order.
However there is the Europa League once again and it is inevitable that a second string will take to the pitch in this competition. As such, Ryan’s return may not be quite such an illogical idea after all. That, together with the experience he can bring to training etc could see him back at the Lane in time for the new season.
If he is happy to just be named.in the Europa squad, then I don’t see a problem. This would allow Kaboom to play PlayStation or go on Twitter during the week and prepare for PL games…
