There are so many conflicting stories concerning Jan Vertonghen, Luka Modric and others that it’s difficult to make any comment now until the deals are done. However, the media does seem united in its opinion that Ezekiel Fryers will soon be signing up at the Lane.

The 19 year old left back made six first team appearances for Manchester United and it’s thought that he would be put straight into the squad as cover for BAE.

Lack of adequate cover in key positions was a defining factor for the previous regime and consistent though Benoit is, when he was injured, we had to convert Danny Rose from left midfield through absence of choice.

That raises another question: Would Fryers’ arrival spell the end for Danny? While Rose has been included in the Team GB squad, there has been plenty of reported interest from other clubs. Perhaps a loan to another Premiership side would duck that issue for now…

  1. As a United fan, I just hope the overpriced lightweight Modric doesn’t make the move coming the other way.
    ‘Revolution’…..lol

  2. i am slightly frustrated that the vertonghen deal is still not finalised, would be nice to have some decent early signings for once. Anyone heading down next sat for the launch of our new home strip?

    • ‘Nice to have some decent early signings’? Mate, we’ve just signed sigurdsson and supposedly fryers and we’re less than a week into the window! How much earlier can you get?

  3. I’d say we’re moving at Usain Bolt pace in this transfer market, it’s brilliant.
4 More players, only 3 if Modric stays, and i think we’re set.
    My personal preferences would be:
Vorm – was quality for Swansea last season, knows the prem and shouldn’t take too long to settle in.
Sturridge – Greedy, yes, but then i don’t mind that in a striker. Knows how to play AVB’s system, and he needs to make a move to realise his potential.
Adeybayor – bit of a gamble here, his personality may be too much for AVB, but he put in a great shift last season, fan’s on the whole loved him, he loved us, and i think the rest of the squad liked him, Gareth in particular.
If Modric goes, then i suppose it will be Moutinho that we go for, and I won’t be disappointed by that, £30mil is a big price but it would be a great statement of intent.
