While the focus has been on alleged midfield targets in the forthcoming transfer window, Tottenham’s need for a striker remains an obvious one. The international break brings little to report so it pays to be wary of many of the stories but there are claims of a confirmed interest in St Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 23 year old Gabonese international has averaged a goal every other game during his spell with his current club and his father and agent claims there is widespread interest from other clubs,

“My son is having a fantastic season in the French league,” Pierre Aubame told Sky. “He is happy and we are happy.

“There is interest in Germany, Italy and England. We have been invited by clubs. I will go to meet Fiorentina, who are interested and want the boy.”

Elsewhere, the link with Christian Benteke has resurfaced today and the Belgian would represent less of a ‘punt’ having proved his value in the English Premiership.

How much truth there is in either story remains to be seen but it’s interesting to see the transfer focus switch back to where it’s needed most.
