Last season there were some issues at the heart of the Spurs defence and with injuries occasionally leading to a squad with only two fit centre backs, it may have surprised some to see Bongani Khumalo initially farmed out on loan to Reading before finally returning to the fringes of the club set up.

If the South African international was unable to break into the team a year ago, his chances must surely be zero now and as he prepares for a season’s end with current loan club PAOK, his agent is looking for clear the air talks with his parent employers.

“I will be flying to the UK next week to sit down with Spurs and discuss the way forward for Bongani,” said Glyn Binkin.

“There is a new coach, so we are not quite sure where we stand at the moment. We will hear what they have to say and take it from there.”

There may be a new coach but AVB has already said that he’s unlikely to start next season with as many as five centre halves so it surely is certain that Bongani Khumalo’s days at White Hart Lane are over?
