When Spurs travelled to St Mary’s earlier in the season, we came away with a hard fought 2-1 win and an unconvincing performance at the time brought a fair share of criticism from those who like to complain on social media.

However, the fact is that Southampton were a much better side than their league position suggested at the time and they have continued to prove that as the campaign has progressed.

We know that it won’t be easy and that’s a view shared by Jan Vertonghen who spoke about the previous fixture on the club’s official website.

“We had a difficult game there, we went 2-0 up but they scored early in the second half and it was tough,” Jan said.

“We know what to expect and everyone is ready for Saturday,” he added.

“They are a strong side, they want to play football and they’ve had some amazing results, especially at home.”

With victories over Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, Southampton are no easy opponent and there is a potent attacking threat from players such as Rickie Lambert and Gaston Ramirez. Can Spurs hold them off and claim three points that will keep us in the Champions League hunt?
