At the end of last week we questioned the point of post-season friendlies in the wake of Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Jamaica in the Bahamas. It was a fairly flat week among supporters in any event and with nothing to get excited about, the only newsworthy occurrence was a first half injury to Kyle Walker.

A few days later and it’s been confirmed that the right back has been ruled out of England’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Ireland and Brazil.

“The Tottenham Hotspur defender will be unavailable for the upcoming two matches and has returned to his club. There will be no replacement at this time,” an FA statement reads.

And that seems to be the only news anyone has on the issue so it all suggests that it’s relatively minor at this stage. However, it’s perhaps fortunate that the squad has emerged relatively unscathed from such an irrelevant contest.
