In an international week when there is precious little club news, the transfer rumour mill will always get into full swing even if it’s well over two months until the window opens once again. One of the more interesting links this week concerns Basel’s 21 year old Mohamed Salah and when you look at the player’s record, this won’t be the worst option we’ll see in the coming weeks.

Basel are in vogue after beating Chelsea in the Champions League and we’ve already seen their defender Fabian Schar linked with a move to the Premier League. Salah’s goal against Chelsea in that win was guaranteed to speed up the gossip.

This is a versatile player, comfortable either on the wing or up front where he is more regularly used by the Egyptian national team. In fact, his scoring record at that level is a prolific one and so far Salah has found the net 17 times in 24 games. (Fellow Egyptian Mido managed 19 in 51 by the way).

At domestic level that record is more modest and with a reported transfer fee of £15m, this does seem something of a punt. However, the player has supposedly been watched for several months now but will Spurs really make a move when the window is thrown open again?

  2. Another attacking midfielder? Is this really what we need, we haven’t even seen Lamela and Chadli for more than 2 minutes , not to mention we have Lennon coming back, Townsend playing well, Erickson, Paulino, Sigurdson etc etc. The last time I checked you were only allowed 11 men in a team, of which 4 or 5 are midfielders. What about getting a striker and a defender ffs?
