It’s been a long time since the name of Giuseppe Rossi appeared on the rumour mill and those of us who don’t follow Serie A too closely might still have pictured him in the treatment room at Villarreal. The Italian international featured regularly in links with Spurs but a long term injury sustained while at his Spanish club put an end to it all.

Now Rossi is fit and firing again and maybe it’s predictable that a fresh story has appeared suggesting that Tottenham will be back in for the striker in January. 12 goals in 15 league games this season for Fiorentina might suggest that his injury issues are behind him but with a quoted fee in the region of £30m is it really worth the risk?

Rossi is 26 now and if he could replicate those stats in the Premier League then of course he would be an asset for Spurs. But why would Fiorentina sell after half a season? There may be something in this but at first glance it looks like a case of putting an old name in the frame just as he returns to form and fitness.
