Tottenham’s form in the Europa League has been in stark contrast at times with that displayed in the Premiership. Goals have been relatively easy to come by – 11 in five so far plus another eight against Dinamo Tbilisi while just one has flown in at the wrong end of the pitch.
It’s a record that pleases head coach Andre Villas-Boas who is targeting one more victory tonight to complete a perfect run.
“Another win would be brilliant for us,” Villas-Boas said.
“It would really complete a good group run; completely different to the one we had last year.
“It would be good to finish on 18 points. We are qualified and Anzhi are as well. They go on a two-month break now for their winter break, so all of this adds to special circumstances in a game.
“But we will try to motivate our players to focus on a win and achieve 18 points and go through the game without any injuries.”
As we’ve seen, Anzhi are having a rough time of it and a clean sweep of points should be a formality. Somehow, the Russian Premier League side have made it through to the knockouts in second place but don’t bank on facing the Eagles in the latter stages of this competition.
