Team news is in and there are further injury doubts following Thursday’s disastrous 3-1 defeat at home to Benfica. Kyle Walker and Emmanuel Adebayor have picked up knocks and along with Mousa Dembele, both are doubts for Sunday’s North London derby.

“Mousa Dembele, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kyle Walker are all struggling,” said Tim Sherwood at his Friday press conference.

Meanwhile, Gylfi Sigurdsson is back in training but Erik Lamela, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue and Michael Dawson are all ruled out.

It’s hard to fathom why Roberto Soldado would have been rested if he wasn’t in line to play in this match although it’s just the type of game where the coach would revert to 4-5-1. If Ade is unfit however, then the Spaniard will definitely start.

In the back four, it’s hoped that we have four fit defenders ahead of Kyle Naughton while the midfield retains a number of options despite those injuries. Here’s our preferred selection but what’s your view?

  1. I think we have to play 5 in midfield, otherwise we’ll get overrun again. I like that this team has Eriksen central, I think he is wasted on the left and leaves his fullback exposed.

I have previewed the game on my website and I think the team should be:

    Lloris
    Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Fryers
    Sandro Dembele
    Lennon Eriksen Townsend
    Adebayor

  2. If Ade, Walker, Dembele are out, I would field the following XI:

    Lloris
    Naughton-Kaboom-Verts-Rose
    Sandro-Paulinho
    Lennon-Eriksen-Chadli/Townsend
    Bobby Soldier

If Ade, Walker, and Dembele pass late fitness test, I would go with 2 up front at WHL against Le Arse:

    Lloris
    Walker-Kaboom-Verts-Rose
    Lennon-Sandro-Eriksen-Chadli/Townsend
    Ade-Bobby Soldier

  3. Lloris, Naughton, Vertongen , Kaboul, Rose ,
DEMBELE/BENTALEB/PAULINHO [whoever is fit!!], Sandro, Lennon ,Eriksen,
    Adebayor Soldado

If Adebayor not fit then one of the three above

  4. Our best player at present is Eriksen but some don’t want him in their teams. He is the only one who can create something – we have nobody else!!

    • Agree eriksen and ade are the two best players currently.

      ………………..lloris………………….
      ..walker…kaboom..vert…rose..

      ……………sandro…paulinho…
      …chadli……eriksen….Townsend..
      ……………soldado……
4231 formation and soldado seen as ade is injured if not he would get my bite instead of soldado.

  5. Lloris

    Naughton Kaboul Vertonghen Rose

    Sandro Sigurdsson

    Lennon Eriksen Townsend

    Soldado

Freidel, Veljkovic, Dembele, Paulinho, Chadli, Kane, Bentaleb

  6. glad to see no one has picked Bentaleb in their starting 11. He gets overawed in the big games and switches off to easily like he did against Man City and Chelsea. If Ade is fit i’d go a 4-5-1 set up so we don’t get over run in midfield.COYS

  7. Funny that no-one is picking Bentaleb and he’s the first one Tim wants in every week. Agree with others that Eriksen must start somewhere…of all the midfielders we have he is the only one who can pick a pass and open up defences…maybe start Soldado up top with Eriksen in behind and Ade from the bench? Towsend in for Lennon and give Chadli a run. COYS!

  8. OK – I’m back with my head on straight again. Had to blow off some steam there. I knew it was coming, but I still held out hope we would play a level worthy of a derby game with the Gunners. We did, however, this time, all the effort was there, no mistakes, and we still lose. This just proves to me, yet again, that we have just enough talent to be no better than 5th place in this league. We have a deep squad, I like our subs for once. But nobody aside Lloris, Vertongen and mayyybe walker can get into a starting top 4 side. There in lies our problem, we have a deep squad of average or a bit above average players. No real special quality anywhere. Anybody with some talent has an even downside. And thats why we can’t beat a top side unless they make a mistake. we are flat track bullies through and through, and our record this year is proof. Eriksen needs a year (or two) to develop into that star. He’s just not consistent and really, hasn’t factored this year. I’m pretty much done with Ade even though he worked like a horse today. He’s got too much mileage on his legs it looks like, and was huffing and puffing at the hour mark. If Vertonghen and Lloris don’t want to be here, we need to sell them for maximum profits before they force their way out. Lennon? I don’t know if his stock has been any higher or lower than it is now. I can’t even tell if he’s still got potential or if this is what he amounts to. frankly, i am still gutted from the sales of Bale and Mods. we had a fine team, what the hell happened? still……………… i am not mad at the gunners anymore. sad as that may be, today is the last day i consider them our main rivals. we need to worry about ourselves, i don’t want to focus on something that only seems a distraction at the moment. we will never overtake our neighbors and why should we care? they have more money and they just frankly have more luck and the football gods are with them. god bless you, please go away, forever. as for us, i have only a few more good years left in my life to really enjoy football, and enjoy my spurs. i am still holding on to our 99 and 08 League Cups with my white knuckle grip as those are the only peices of bling i have for my lifetime of service as a supporter. i don’t care what we win, i just want atleast 2 more trophies in the rest of my lifetime as a supporter. the club that i love, can you do that for me?

      • i’m afraid i’ve already revealed too much in my rant, and would like to remain anonymous to my avatar. just know, i’m all heart for the Lwhites, but at the moment, broken.
