In the wake of ‘punch gate’, rumour overtook actual news and we were left wondering as to the extent of Roberto Soldado’s injury. The Spanish striker was stretchered off at the end of Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool and with Emmanuel Adebayor already on the treatment table, we were looking pretty thin up top.

To date, there is still no news on Soldado other than a confirmation that the club were assessing his problem but there is a confirmed report that Ade is back in training.

“It’s great to see him back out there,” said Tim Sherwood on the club’s official website.

“We’ll continue to assess him as the week progresses and hopefully he’ll then be back in contention against Sunderland.

“He’s obviously been a big miss. He’s been outstanding for us.”

Sunderland at home would be a perfect opportunity to revert to 4-4-2 but Sherwood may not have the personnel to do so. Adebayor and Kane is an option but that leaves nothing on the bench and the decision not to replace Jermain Defoe comes under the spotlight as a result of all this.

Who would you like to see lead the line at White Hart Lane on Monday night?
