The rumour linking Tottenham with a move for former centre half Steven Caulker is still doing the rounds but as the countdown to the summer transfer window continues, the amount of clubs competing for his signature seems to rise.

Caulker left White Hart Lane ahead of the 2013-14 season and proved to be a shrewd buy for Cardiff City. The 22 year old impressed in an otherwise poor campaign for the Bluebirds and definitely grew as a player during his time with the Welsh based club.

Clearly, the England international is too good for the Championship and it’s widely reported that he has an £8m release clause that was written into his contract should Cardiff be relegated.

Spurs were thought to be in pole position for his signature but the list of clubs now linked to the centre half has grown to include Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton Crystal Palace and Newcastle who are said to have been offered the player by his current employers.

In relative terms £8m for a 22 year old international centre back is quite cheap so perhaps it’s not surprising that so many clubs have been mentioned. The question is, should Spurs battle to be at the front of the queue?

  1. Hes not good enough, has no pace and I dont reckon he would even consider coming back… would rather see reid, richards, lovren or hangeeland….all better defenders than caulker..ciriches is better..

  2. Disagree with the above!!
He’s 22 for f@&#’s sake, has great potential & was a star performer last season for a poor club side!
Sure, at aged 22 he’s not the finished article, but neither were….Ledley King, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Tony Adams, etc & they all became great England CB’s!
& to get him back at £3m LESS than we sold him for….no brainer!!
Come on Mr Levy, sort it out!
    COYS!!
