The advantage of having a consistent penalty taker is a fact not lost on Spurs fans who have witnessed their fair share of profligacy over the years. So, Andros Townsend’s expertly taken spot kick was just as important as any of the five strikes against Chelsea but while useful, clearly that ability from 12 yards isn’t going to keep you in the team.

It’s been a mixed first half of the campaign for the winger but after pleading for a starting berth against Burnley, Andros has stated his intention to stay and battle at the club.

“The club want me here and I want to be here, so that’s all I can say at the minute,” Townsend is quoted as saying in the London Evening Standard.

“I’m a Spurs boy. I’ve been at the club since the age of eight so as long as I’m in the team, as I have been over the last few weeks, I’m not looking to go anywhere.”

With the window open, rumours of a move away have appeared sporadically but is Townsend vital to Spurs and does he deserve to stay?
