Reports from Turkey suggest that Tottenham have had a €6m bid turned down for the Fenerbahce midfielder Mehmet Topal.

At 29-years old Topal would add experience to the Spurs midfield and with only one year remaining on his contract he’s a player that wouldn’t break the bank.

Arsenal have also been linked with the Turkish international but his agent Batur Altıparmak has claimed that a move is unlikely, “Mehmet is likely to be at Fenerbahçe next season.”

This could prove to be a mere bargaining ploy to prompt Fenerbahce into offering an improved contract rather than seeing him walk away for nothing in a year, or a sign that they are willing to wait it out and have the pick of clubs next summer.

If Tottenham are serious about buying the player then they will have to up an offer which equates to just £4.2m. Watch Topal in action during his spell at Valencia to decide whether he’s worth the extra investment.

  1. This would be a fantastic deal. Great player, bags of experience and regularly playing at the highest level. He would be the modric we’ve missed.
Spurs need to make this happen if they can!
