Well… that escalated quickly. Tottenham threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Stoke City at White Hart Lane.
First half goals from Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli had put Spurs in complete control, and they went on to dominate the first 65 minutes or so.
But when Harry Kane went off injured moments later, the whole shape of the team changed and Stoke found a way back into the game.
A penalty and a Diouf header were enough to earn a point for Stoke. Here’s how Twitter reacted…
You know deep down you wouldn't have it any other way or you might as well support a good team. #Spursy

When Tottenham is Tottenham they're Tottenham

#thfc How have Spurs thrown this away? It was looking so positive all over the pitch – although Stoke had missed some good chances.

Spurs are being…well Spurs! 2-0 up to 2-2.

We are a metaphor of ourselves. And shit.

Spurs cannot defend crosses. Lost count of the number of times a Stoke player has won a header in the #THFC box

I think Erik Lamela ate a Happy Meal about 15 minutes before he came on the pitch.

This side is just WAY too young. None of them talking to each other. Just allowing their heads to drop.
— Alan (@hotspur423) August 15, 2015
A Cambiasso in there to calm everyone down during halves like this would be absolutely perfect IMO. #COYS

Dissapointing. Dominated the game, fully deserved to win but couple of poor goals have them a point unfortunately
— JD (@HugoIIoris) August 15, 2015
2-0 nil up and cruising. Give away a needless penalty, Kane goes off injured, end up dropping 2 points. Just another day in Spursville

We're only playing in fits and spurts atm. Need to start managing games much better, control the ball when ahead and close it out.
— Tom Edwards (@tomedwards) August 15, 2015
Desperately need more firepower up front, N'Jie one but Berahino necessary. Onto Leicester.
— Nikhil Saglani (@Nikhil_Saglani) August 15, 2015
Butland's my MOTM. Made two ridiculous point-blank saves to keep Stoke in it. Lloris also brilliant to be fair. Urgh, so Spurs.

MP bought a whole new defence last season and it was shit.He buys some more defenders this summer and the defence is just as crap(mind you it doesn’t help not playing them).MP says he doesn’t want to buy another striker after purchase of N’jie; now with Kane injured, we really look clever.MP is completely and totally out of his depth, doesn’t know what he is doing. The thought of him saying ” this is football” in an after match interview already makes me sick.Mark my words, with MP at the helm, we are relegation fodder.
Mate can you give us more than just Twitter screen shots!? Write an opinion on the game.
Charlie Parish, you are so right. Said it the minute he left Leicester, but heh, he’s not 15 years old with no premiership experience so def not for us. I questioned this managers interpretation of a player last year, bearing in mind he was involved in the buying of Stambouli and Fazio, and nothing has changed my mind. We will not have a senior figure in this side because he’s not comfortable in managing them an d he is being sussed.
