The England squad for their fixtures against Estonia and Lithuania was named today and it contained a surprise for two Spurs stars.
Dele Alli was given his first call up despite the 19-year old having only made four Premier League appearances, while the much-praised Eric Dier must be contented with a place in the U21 squad, despite his brilliant form as a defensive midfielder. Here’s how fans reacted to the news.
No Daniel Sturridge but Danny Ings and Dele Alli make England squad for Euro 2016 qualifiers

Alli in England squad…but not Dier? #THFC

If anything Eric Dier should be in the senior squad and Dele Alli in the U-21s. Its to soon to call up Alli after only few games in PL #COYS

How is Eric Dier not in the england squad and carrick and lallana are? Roy's been using his crack pipe again. #Threelions

Dele Alli's England call-up disappointing to #Nigeria. I understand there have been attempts to persuade him to play for the Super Eagles.

I can only imagine an Eric Dier who feels he's been slighted & has something to prove is a very good thing for Tottenham Hotspur.

#thfc Pretty incredible progress from Alli, having had less than 2 months to adapt from League One to the Premier League. And now England!

Hodgson was at Spurs v Man City so I can only assume that he doesn't realise that Eric Dier is English.

I'm not sure how you can look at the make-up of recent England squads, watch Spurs' last few games, then call up Alli instead of Dier.

The thought of Roy Hodgson having anything to do with Alli frightens the life out of me.

Quite possible that Hodgson doesn’t feel he needs a holding midfielder against Estonia and Lithuania. We’ll need one next summer though.

Personally, I hope Alli and Dier announce their intention to retire from international football this weekend
