Reports from Spain claim that Spurs are lining up a bid for the Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The versatile 21-year old has become a vital player for Diego Simeone at Atletico. Able to play as a central midfielder, on either flank, or even as a central defender, Saul has played 34 games this season and scored eight goals.

Saul has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal over the past few months, as Premier League clubs target a player available at a relatively affordable price. The Spanish U21 international has a buyout clause of €24m.

With Atletico facing up to a transfer ban in the future, they will surely be desperate for Saul to commit his future to the club. That shouldn’t be an issue if the player is offered a good enough deal, with Saul recently having claimed that, “If I were offered a lifelong contract, I’d be delighted to play here for as long as my legs allow me.”

Wages seem to be the issue holding up the deal, with Saul reportedly wanting £75,000 a week to stay with Atletico. If the Spanish giants can’t agree a deal, then Saul looks like the perfect midfield reinforcement for Tottenham, with the ability to cover Eric Dier in a defensive position or play in a box-to-box role.
