It’s at this stage of the season when clubs start looking at teams heading towards relegation and start thinking about which of their players they can cherry-pick.

One obvious candidate is Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum and reports claim that Spurs are considering a move for the Dutch midfielder.

Wijnaldum has scored nine goals this season for a struggling team that are currently nineteenth in the Premier League. With the Magpies looking likely to go down, interest in Wijnaldum is inevitable, with West Ham also reported to be monitoring the 25-year old.

Although employed as an attacking midfielder for Newcastle, Wijnaldum is able to play in a deeper role and could therefore offer cover for both Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen next season.

Wijnaldum’s goal tally for Newcastle this season is no fluke. He scored 14 goals in 34 games during his last season for Feyenoord, earning himself a transfer to PSV. In Eindhoven he added 56 goals in 152 appearances before moving to the Premier League last summer. Watch him in action below.
