Reports from France claim that Spurs are stepping up their interest in the Basel striker Breel Embolo.

The Swiss international has been linked with a transfer to Red Bull Leipzig in recent days, which may have prompted Tottenham to make their move.

The news comes hot on the heels of Michy Batshuayi’s admission that he will not complete a transfer until after Euro 2016. Considered likely to be Spurs’ number one striker target this summer, Batshuayi has claimed that he has his mind set on international matters with Belgium.

“I prefer to concentrate 100 per cent on the Euros, then we will see what happens.

“Everybody likes the Premier League. It has a lot of spectacle, a lot of goals and many good players. It is natural that every good player is attracted by that league.”

With Belgium likely to reach the latter stages of the tournament and West Ham also interested in the forward, it would make sense to target alternative options.

Embolo has long been linked with Tottenham. With the club possibly needing to sign two strikers to complement Harry Kane, the youngster could fit the bill as a high-quality third choice forward.

Despite having only turned 19 in February, Emboli has scored 30 goals in 86 games for Basel and won nine full caps for Switzerland. Watch him in action below.
