With Victor Wanyama set to sign for Spurs any day now, our thoughts have turned to where he will fit into the team.

While he obviously provides an option as cover for Eric Dier, the concept of Wanyama playing alongside the England midfielder is an interesting one.

Dier has been in good form for his country, with his passing ability having proved particularly impressive over England’s three group matches. His ability to dictate play from deep was a feature of his game that grew over his first season in midfield for Tottenham and is now being displayed on the international stage.

With Mousa Dembele banned for the start of the season, could Dier provide the creativity in midfield next season, leaving Wanyama to deal with the defensive side of things?

It certainly looks like a useful option in games away from home and in situations when the team are looking to protect a lead. The latter point is especially true when you consider the amount of points that Spurs threw away to late goals in the title race last season.
