Marseille are closing in on a £22 million deal to sign Moussa Sissoko, according to reports in France.
Sissoko became Tottenham’s joint-record signing last summer, arriving from Newcastle United for £30 million on deadline day.
The deal had a desperate feel to it; Spurs apparently only moved for the Sissoko after missing out on their number one target, Wilfried Zaha.
The Frenchman has endured a difficult first season at Tottenham, failing to score a single goal and mainly being used as a late substitute.
Last week reports in England suggested French club Marseille are monitoring Sissoko’s situation after finding out he wants to quit Spurs this summer.
And French outlet Le JDD (per HITC) are now claiming the 27-year-old is the subject of a £22 million bid from Marseille. An £8 million loss is probably the best Tottenham can hope for at this stage.
A move to Marseille would give Sissoko the chance to return to his homeland where he is more appreciated after a string of impressive performance for France over the last couple of years.
If Brighton had joined the race we’d lose out.
