Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena has signed a new contract with the La Liga giants, all but ending Tottenham’s hopes of signing him.
Earlier this week, reports in Spain suggested Spurs could make a move for the 19-year old, who made four appearances for Barcelona’s first team last season after impressing for Barcelona B.
Alena is represented by former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol and Pochettino’s ex-teammate at Espanyol, Ivan De La Pena. Pochettino is believed to be close friends with the pair, which made a potential deal sound promising.
But Barcelona have now confirmed Alena has signed a new contract that includes £66 million release clause.
