Southampton will not sell defender Cedric Soares to Tottenham this summer, according to Sky Sports.

Journalist Lyall Thomas claims Southampton have come to an agreement with new manager Mauricio Pellegrino that none of the club’s star players will be sold in the current transfer window.

Virgin van Dijk was expected to leave south coast club for a huge fee this summer, but it now appears he’ll stay with the Saints.

In the last week or so, right-back Soares has emerged as a target for Spurs as the search continues for a Kyle Walker replacement — he is expected to join Manchester City in the coming weeks.

Soares has also been linked with Everton, Juventus and Barcelona, but it appears he will now be staying with Southampton unless the club breaks its promise to new boss Pellegrino.

Manchester City are believed to be close to signing Dani Alves, so the Walker transfer could drag on as Tottenham refuse to budge on their £50 million valuation.
