Ross Barkley wants to become Tottenham’s top earner if he is to join the club, according to The Mirror.

The midfielder apparently wants Spurs to pay him £150,000-a-week, which would make him the club’s highest paid player ahead of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

The report also claims that Tottenham value Barkley at around £15 million, with Everton still holding out for closer to £50 million for a player with just 12 months left on his current deal.

Barkley refused to sign a new contract with the Toffees at the end of last season and is expected to move on in the coming weeks.

Spurs are the only team being strongly linked with a move for the 23-year-old, but it seems the clubs are still some way from compromising on a fee.

Once that’s sorted, it appears Tottenham have the difficult task of convincing Barkley to take a much lower salary that what he’s requesting. This one could drag on, and on.

  1. Ross Barkley’s huge wage demand are eye watering for an average midfielder. I hope Tottenham tell him that they are no longer interested in signing him. No other club as far as I know is interested, he will just have to play for Everton’s under 23’s next season.

  2. How are the Mirror going to know this, newspapers just make shit up and create stories out of nothing to sucker gullible people who believe everything they read!

  3. £15 million is very fair for an under-performing midfielder. £50 million is simply trying to make sure he doesn’t go which just means they like him – nice to know you’re wanted by your club.

Surely the reports on his wages demands are a lie – there’s no way he can possibly believe he should be the top earner at Spurs… can he?
