Tottenham have missed out on reported target Bryan Cristante, who is set to join AS Roma from Atalanta according to reports.
Cristante had been mooted as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele – the Belgian midfielder is expected to leave Spurs this summer.
Dembele has just one year left on his contract and has been heavily linked with a move to either Italy or China.
The 30-year-old will apparently make a decision on his future after Belgium’s World Cup campaign.
As a result of his likely departure, Tottenham have been linked with a number of central midfielders.
Cristante was one of the first to be linked with Spurs, although talk of a move to north London has gone quiet in recent weeks.
That might be because the 23-year-old has been in talks with Roma, who are set to confirm his £26.3m acquisition this week according to Goal.
It will be interesting to see who Tottenham ultimately attempt to replace Dembele with – or perhaps Mauricio Pochettino will put his faith in Harry Winks next term.
