Tottenham could make a £35 million move for West Ham United star Declan Rice, according to the Express.

Rice has impressed for West Ham since breaking into the first team last season and signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract in December, ending speculation he could leave for nothing this summer.

However, the Express claims Spurs are still considering a move for Rice even though it will now cost them at least £35 million to tempt West Ham into selling.

Rice’s recent performances suggest even that might not be enough. The 20-year-old has often looked like an older head in front of the back four and scored his first goal for West Ham against Arsenal earlier this season.

Tottenham are in need of a defensive midfielder to provide competition for Eric Dier. Mousa Dembele has left for China and the Mauricio Pochettino can no longer rely on the fitness of Victor Wanyama, who could leave this summer.

West Ham won’t be keen to do business with Spurs because of the rivalry between the two clubs. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham make their interest official in the near future.

  1. Rice may eventually be sold but when he does will be for over 100 million in a few years so would need to be close to that now but as it’s spurs they would have to pay the full 100 million if they want him now
