Maurizio Sarri is likely to lose his job if Chelsea lost to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, according to the Telegraph.

Sarri’s position has come under scrutiny in recent weeks following a disastrous string of performances, particularly away from home, including a 6-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Blues put in an improved display against City in Sunday’s EFL Cup final at Wembley, but a dispute between Sarri and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga raised more questions about the manager’s leadership.

The Telegraph claims Chelsea’s improvement has bought Sarri more time and the Italian will be given the chance to coach his side to a result against Spurs.

But the report goes on to say a defeat could result in Sarri’s sacking, something that could affect his team in both a positive way and a negative way on Wednesday night.

Spurs eased to victory in the reverse fixture at Wembley, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side also won the last time they visited Stamford Bridge, so it will be interesting to see how Chelsea react to the pressure of requiring a result more than ever.
