Dele Alli has been left out of the Tottenham starting line-up for today’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

The 23-year-old started against Bayern Munich but looked off the pace. Mauricio Pochettino defended Alli in his press conference on Friday, insisting he remains a “very important” player for the club despite his form and fitness issues in recent months.

But the Spurs boss has taken the decision to leave Alli out of the team for a must-win game at Brighton. The Londoners will be desperate to bounce back from Tuesday’s embarrassing 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Pochettino clearly feels Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela, who both come in, are more effective options than Alli in this case. The duo came off the bench in the second half against Bayern but could do little to prevent the subsequent onslaught.

Meanwhile, Moussa Sissoko starts at right-back after Pochettino suggested that would be the case on Friday. Serge Aurier is suspended following his red card against Southampton last weekend.

Eric Dier makes his first Premier League start of the season, coming in for Harry Winks, while Ben Davies replaces Danny Rose at left-back. Check out the full XI below.
