Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has urged Leeds United to sign Tottenham defender Juan Foyth, describing the deal as a “no brainer”.

The Whites, who were within touching distance of making their long-awaited return to the Premier League prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, are going to need topflight proven players if the season does resume and they do eventually promoted back to the big time.

And in particular, a possible replacement for the impressive Ben White, who is currently on a season-long loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Spurs centre-back has featured just five times in all competitions this season, and having not played since making a costly error at Norwich City in December, is likely to be looking for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

According this report in the Football Insider, Foyth, whose current deal at Tottenham expires in 2022, would be available for £8m. And the former England frontman reckons that it would a great piece of business for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

“I like Foyth. He has shown that he can play in the Premier League, it does not faze him,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“If Ben White moves on then you are at least replacing him with Premier League experience. He is a good player but there is question marks over whether he is the same calibre as Ben White.

“A run of games would certainly benefit him. It has been a while since he has played regularly but I like the qualities he possesses. I could definitely see that one happening.

“It is almost a no-brainer. If they could get that over the line it would be a good deal because it would not cost a fortune.”
