Tottenham’s starting line for tonight’s Premier League meeting with Everton has been confirmed.

The headline news is that Toby Alderweireld starts for the first time since before the coronavirus-induced break. He replaces Davinson Sanchez in the back four.

There is just one other change from last week’s defeat at Sheffield United, with Harry Winks coming for Steven Bergwijn.

All of which means Jose Mourinho has seemingly reverted to a 4-3-3 formation. A midfield three of Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Giovani Lo Celso will provide support for a front three of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

Ben Davies and Serge Aurier are arguably fortunate to keep their places, though in fairness Mourinho has few other options at full-back. That said, it would have been nice to see Ryan Sessegnon given an opportunity to impress on the left.

Lucas is also perhaps lucky to still be in the team. He struggled at Bramall Lane while Bergwijn, who was Spurs’ most dangerous attacker, was taken off early in the second half. Hopefully Mourinho knows what he’s doing here.

  1. Toby Alderweireld should alway play instead of Sanchez. His distribution is terrible and needs a lot of work in this area. I also like to see Vertonghen alongside in of Dier

  2. We’ve somehow gone from proud, strutting fighting Cockerels, to clumsy, dopey donkeys.
I know its an easy reach To aim a shot at Maureen but watching this Dross and vibe-less Flaccidness
Doesn’t fill me with much hope for our Spurs immediate future., meantime, coyfs
