Ajax have entered the race to sign Tottenham starlet Ryan Sessegnon on loan, according to the Telegraph.

Earlier this week, we relayed another Telegraph story claiming Fulham are interesting in loaning Sessegnon, who joined Spurs from the Cottagers last summer. It is believed Jose Mourinho is reluctant to let the 20-year-old leave but Sessegnon is said to be desperate to play more regularly.

And now the same publication believes Ajax have asked Tottenham about Sessegnon.

The report suggests the left-back would be used in a more attacking role in Amsterdam, as Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is looking to replace Chelsea-bound Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech, who scored against Spurs in last season’s memorable Champions League semi-final second leg, has been one of Ajax’s most influential players in recent seasons, so Sessegnon would have big boots to fill.

All of which raises questions over where Sessegnon’s future lies in terms of his position.

If Mourinho sees him as a left-back, he will continue to battle Ben Davies for a starting spot next term. But if he wants to play in a more advanced role, perhaps a loan would be best as there is too much competition in those areas at Tottenham.

  1. Yet another load of bullshit. Next up, we’ll be told that Liverpool, Manchester United, Man City will express an interest in Ryan. Silly season indeed.

  2. Well, Ray, it is clear as day that Jose doesn’t appear to have a plan for Ryan. Like Dier, Ryan appears to be stuck trying to decide which position to focus on, attack or defence. Either way, Davies is more suited to Jose’s style for defence by being someone who can move into central defence (3 at back) which Ryan isn’t accomplished at.
Then on the left attack, spurs have 3-4 more advanced and experienced players ahead of Ryan. So where does he really fit in?
Levy won’t sell him unless he doubles his money. So it does make sense to let the lad go out on loan. If spurs don’t win silverware next season I cannot imagine Kane will stick around, and I’m sure Son would likely leave to, Lamela is loan passed his departure due date so Ryan will get his chances then. But this season he needs games to develop.
