Tottenham are hopeful of signing Wolves right-back Matt Doherty this summer, according to Football.London’s reliable reporter Alasdair Gold.

Doherty joined Midlands outfit as a teenager in 2010 and has was an integral part of the Wolves side that finished 7th last season and reached the Europa League quarter-finals.

The 28-year-old, whose a Republic of Ireland international, has missed just two Premier League games for Wolves since their promotion to the topflight in 2018 and has scored eight goals and added eight assists in 74 league appearances in the previous two seasons.

Jose Mourinho has already identified right-back as a position Spurs need to strengthen in – especially with Kyle Walker-Peters having joined Southampton permanently and Serge Aurier heavily linked with moves to both AC Milan and more recently, Bayer Leverkusen.

Wolves are on the verge of signing Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland Niles in a £20m deal, which could pave the way for Tottenham to step in and sign Doherty – with Football.London reporting that Mourinho is a ‘fan’ of the right-back and is keen on bringing him to Spurs this summer.
