Tottenham want to make Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal permanent this summer but they do not want to pay the agreed optional fee, according to reports in Portugal.
Vinicius joined Spurs on loan from Benfica last summer and has scored nine goals across all competitions, including an FA Cup hat-trick at Marine and his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa last weekend.
He has rarely featured in the league but has impressed in Europe filling in for Harry Kane, who he partnered up front with relative success at Villa.
As a result, Portuguese outlet CM Jornal claims Tottenham have ‘admitted’ they now want to buy the 26-year-old Brazilian – but there is a snag.
When striking the loan deal last summer the Londoners apparently agreed a €42 million optional fee to make the move permanent, but they don’t want to pay that much.
Which is understandable. Vinicius has been a useful squad player but he is not worth that amount of money, particularly as he is unlikely to start often when Kane leads the line.
Yes, the two paired up in the win at Villa park and were both on the scoresheet, but Son Heung-min is likely to continue as Kane’s main partner next season if both players stay put.
Surely, surely, we can do better. At best a lower end championship player. We have to find the money from somewhere to buy better quality. He is NOT back up to Kane by any stretch!
