Tottenham are looking into a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to The Independent.

There is a possibility Spurs will need a new goalkeeper next summer when Hugo Lloris’ contract expires – it is unclear whether the Frenchman will sign a new deal.

And so it seems the Londoners have begun the search for Lloris’ replacement.

The Independent claims Tottenham are ‘investigating’ how possible a deal for Martinez could be.

Martinez joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 after winning the FA Cup with Arsenal, who may still be having regrets about letting the Argentine go.

Since then, Martinez has emerged as Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper, meaning Villa could command a hefty fee for their shot stopper.

That could lead to Spurs being priced out of a move, but it sounds like they are interested in the 29-year-old at the very least.

Even if Lloris extends his stay by, say, one more year, Tottenham should probably try to sign a replacement as soon as possible.

Martinez would be ideal, but his valuation and his Arsenal connections may make a move difficult.
