Stories emerging yesterday suggest that Tottenham are about to prepare a bid for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic after the Serie A club said that he could leave. The 22 year old Montenegro international has a good record since joining the Italians back in 2008 but club director Gianfranco Teotino said that the club would not stand in his way.

“Stevan is a Fiorentina player. But if he wants to leave, then let’s make it clear that we do not want to hold anyone against their will,” Teotino said.

“If he believes in this team, then he can wear the club’s shirt for a long time. If he does not, then he will not be missed.”

Jovetic plays as a second striker and as such, it’s predictable that some parts of the media will suggest that he’s a potential replacement for Rafael van der Vaart. From this point however, the deal starts to seem unlikely as it claims that Spurs are offering £7m in comparison to the £18m valuation. Another suggestion is a player plus cash deal involving …. Sebastien Bassong.

Jovetic looks a good fit for Spurs but the figures in the story don’t seem to add up just yet.

  1. KNOW SWEET FECK ALL ABOUT THE LAD IF HE IS AS GOOD A STRIKER OR INDEED ON A PAR WITH THE LIKES OF BERBATOV , NESTLEROOY , SHEARER , OR ME THEN GO FOR IT .

  2. I think Jovetic could be an upgrade on VDV if he leaves, Jovetic is more of second striker so I think he would be a great signing, really hope we can get him.

  3. He’s a good player, I just hope we sign a few players this time round, but how many player plus cash deals have we been linked with in the past 4 years and when was the last time you even heard off one of these deals happening anywhere.

  4. Jovetic is sheer class, serie A s best by a long shot! He can play almost anywhere as long as it is an attacking position! I ve seen him play as a lone striker and he managed even there! I think that we the fans deserve some signings confirmed and perhaps Levy re assuring us that NO ONE from the first team will be moving!

  5. seen him play a few times now he is class! would be a very good signing… can anyone shed some light on the reports that we have signed forest youngster Jamaal Lascelle?

  6. He hasn’t returned to level he was at b4 his serious injury season b4 last but he is still absolute quality would b a great signing, I remember him tearing Liverpool apart 3 seasons ago in cl & it was one of the best performance from a forward I can remember.7ml is a bit of an insult bid double it for starters.

  7. Don’t know much about this player but if he is as good as everybody is saying then let’s sign him
and for god sake Mr Levey don’t use the same old transfer tactics you always do by offering half of what the other club wants pay the money and show everybody that Tottenham are a BIG club
