Kyle Walker’s recent performances have been firmly under the microscope and the media reports had been given more fuel by the right back’s decision to close his Twitter account after the Chelsea game. Kyle may be back on social media but the press are taking things a stage further by suggesting his place in the side is under threat.

The talk after the weekend was all about formations and aside from 4-4-2, a 5-3-2 approach is being suggested in certain quarters. As a man who has been compared to Roberto Carlos, a system involving wing backs may well suit Walker but the name in some frames for the right back berth is Bayern Munich’s Brazilian international Rafinha.

It may just be an isolated report but Rafinha aside, could AVB have lost patience with Kyle so early in his tenure? If a sale were to be sanctioned there would be no shortage of takers but is this particular rumour a sensible suggestion for club and player?

  1. Walker is doing what all young defenders do when they are treated as a senior player and not babied the way Walker was by Parker and Kaboul last season. He needs time and we’d be foolish to marginalise a English player who was Young Player of the Year last season. He needs to keep working hard and that’s it.

  2. He’s a great asset to the club and still very young, he is the future but is going through some growing pains.

I would drop him for Naughton, its good to have competition for places and I’d like to see Naughton work with Lennon.

Kyle needs some time with Ledley, watch the tapes and focus on positional defending. He is so pacey, he always thinks he can get back but Ledley needs to show him how to prevent trouble and the need to get back.

  3. I agree with Josh, Kabul and Parker had his back last season when he went on runs, without kabul and Parker he doesnt have the cover and he is left open at the back, he will just have to defend now and leave the attacks to the midfield and lennon.
