Tottenham have been linked with a £50 million move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt more than once in recent weeks.

De Ligt has emerged as one the most promising young players in Europe since making his Eredivisie debut at age of just 16 – he is also a full Netherlands international.

The teenager has attracted the interest of Barcelona and Arsenal in the past, but Spurs are believed to be among the frontrunners for his signature this summer.

However, the scouts might not have been too impressed with what they saw at the weekend.

De Ligt scored a calamitous own goal against Excelsior in the Eredevisie. You can watch it below.

Thankfully, Ajax fought back to win 2-1. But De Ligt won’t have too many fond memories of the game.

  1. Oh dear oh dear, suddenly he’s not worth his price tag, oh well half price sale – now only £25m lol

The kid is so far ahead of most his age, he can be a real legend of the game if he keeps developing and has the right people around him.

As a Spurs fan, I’d really love to see him, Pau Lopez, Sessegon, Max Meyer and Jann-Fiete Arp sign for us.

All are good enough to get game time and improve the squad depth in place of players like Sissoko, Llorente and Lamela. If we really pushed the boat out Pulisic would be amazing too but we’ll probably end up with the likes of Evans, Bertrand, and re-sign Crouch
