Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the £15m signing of Leeds United starlet Jack Clarke, according to the Daily Express.

Last month, we relayed reports suggesting Spurs had been told to pay £20 million for Clarke after having an initial offer turned down by Leeds.

The 18-year-old winger made his Championship debut last season and went on to score two goals and provide two assists in 22 league appearances.

And the Express claims Tottenham are now on the verge on completing a £15 million transfer.

However, it is believed Clarke could be sent back to Leeds on a season-long loan as part of the deal, which makes a lot of sense.

The teenager would struggle to break into Spurs’ first team next term, so another season in the Championship will do him no harm.

What’s more, Mauricio Pochettino will trust his countryman and mentor Marcelo Bielsea to get the best out of Clarke for a further year at Elland Road.

Tottenham appear to be prioritising new central midfielders in the current window, although it seems Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes is heading elsewhere – find out more here.
