Fiorentina are interested in signing Fernando Llorente, according to reports in Italy.

Llorente’s Tottenham contract expired at the end of last month but the club is yet to officially confirm his departure. The striker is not on the tour of Asia, so he has presumably been released.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Fiorentina have made contact with Llorente, who has experience in Serie A from his successful time at Juventus.

However, it is believed the Spaniard is keen to listen to offers from other clubs. Di Marzio even raises the possibility of Spurs offering him another year-long contract.

That only really seems likely if Tottenham fail to bring in a new striker to provide back-up for Harry Kane.

Llorente generally struggled for the Londoners but made an influential role in the team’s journey to last season’s Champions League final.

Spurs have been linked with Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa, who was apparently brought up during the discussions over Kieran Trippier’s transfer.

Mauricio Pochettino is probably keen to sign a younger player than Llorente, but the 34-year-old arguably did enough at the end of last term to make himself a last resort option for Tottenham.

Di Marzio has also provided an update on the hunt for Trippier’s replacement – read more here.
