On This Day In Spurs History: 18th March

18th March 1961 – Tottenham beat Burnley 3-0 in the FA Cup Semi Final to reach Wembley for the first time in Spurs’ history, en-route to the double. Bobby Smith scored twice, with Cliff Jones also on target.

18th March 1977 – Danny Murphy is born. He would go on to make 29 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 2 goals.

18th March 1992 – Feyenoord hold out for a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane in the European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter finals, to beat us 1-0 on aggregate.

18th March 2006 – Aaron Lennon and Robbie Keane are on target in a 2-0 away win at Birmingham.

  1. The Feyenoord match in 1992 was my first visit to White Hart Lane so will always I remember it fondly, even if the game was pretty poor and the result disappointing. I sat with my dad behind an odd man who shouted ‘Tottenham, Tottenham reject’ very loudly and excitedly at Feyenoord’s Jonny Metgod any time he got anywhere near the ball. Not a single other person joined in.
